Grow

While growing up, there was this man who we called Johnbull. I wouldn't call him mad but he always walked around the streets like he was. We grew up scared of him and he's late now... May his soul rest in peace. Back then, my nanny would always tell I and my siblings to make sure to leave the parlor to the bedroom to sleep at night and that if we do not sleep in the bed room, Johnbull would come and take us. It's funny remembering it now and it makes me ask alot of questions. My nanny's aim was to ensure that we would go to the bedroom to sleep instead of sleeping off while seeing movies. Thinking of it now, I ask myself, what really scared us so much about Johnbull? Why did we always run to the room to sleep whenever my nanny mentions Johnbull? It's not like he ever uad access to the house or has ever really been around us, it's really funny. "If you sleep here, Johnbull will carry you, he will put you under the couch and you will disappear"...funny, I can't thank God enough for growth. In one way or the other, we have experienced such things either from parents, friends, relatives, teachers and many others. We all have been in situations where we discover that what we've always known was just something we were told to prevent us from falling into wrong hands. This little story is just one out of billions of them.

Hmm... Growth is a very nice, necessary and important process in our different lives. A mentor and friend of mine would always say, "knowledge is progressive". i know what you are asking yourself now, how does growth and knowledge relate to each other? The answer is that for you to grow, you have to be knowledgable. The more we seek growth and knowledge, the more we discover that we do not know. Even the bible stated in Hosea 4:6 that my people perish for lack of knowledge which in a layman's term is simply ignorance and that's one thing that most people suffer from in our today's time. I understand that there are things that are hard to accept especially when you've lived so long believing something else but you know that it won't hurt or kill to atleast do some research and find out for yourself if what you've always known is right. It might take sometime to get to accept a contrary idea or belief from what you initially know but it's still nice to try be sure of what is right and wrong.

There's another thing that is worse than not accepting a contrary view, do you know what that is? Some people don't know that they don't know... Did gou get this? I mean that some people are not aware that they don't know sone ceetain things, that's the worst kind of ignorance. Funny enough, some of these people don't bother to know. I won't want to go too deep into this but i want to let you in on a little secret. It's important to know people you keep around, just like it's said, "if you have 5 wise friends, you will automatically become the 6th one" and also "birds of the same feathers flock together". You can't have five close friends who steal and expect people to know you as someone who doesn't steal, you can't always move together with five smokers and expect people to see you as the odd one... It's doesn't happen that way most times. Still on the same lane, I would advice that you spend your time developing yourself; read books, listen to people who have gone farther than you, listen to people who have followed the same path you want to follow and know how they got there. A friend of mine will always ask me, "what is it that you want to do that someone out there hasn't done?" The good thing about this life is that there's nothing you feel like doing or achieving, a place or position you want to get to that someone hasn't gotten to before, the only thing is that we try to be unique, we try to modify ours to not look exactly like the one that has been done before.
Honestly, there are a lot of things to say about growth and development but we no fit sit down one place finish am (meaning that you can't finish it in one sitting). Life is easy and simple if you want it that way for you and in the same way, you can make it hard for yourself. I'll be stopping here for now but I promise to continue discussing topics about growth and development. Expect the next post... Ciao
